KYE is a design studio which creates original and affordable textile artworks for the home. All items are produced in Scotland in a sustainable and ethical way.

The studio was started by Kat Rulach, Kat graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2018 specialising in printed textiles. She uses woodblock printing to produce colourful and one of a kind fabrics. Her passion for sustainable and ethically produced textiles is key to her work and her inspiration reflects this: looking at the natural world and manmade influence upon nature. Her process is a slow and considered one which looks back at textile history and traditional printing methods whilst at the same time using contemporary design techniques. She spent five months studying in Tokyo, Japan and her love of Japanese design continues to have a huge influence on her work.

The designs are created by Kat in her studio in Glasgow and each item is printed by hand using woodblocks. This traditional print process produces textiles with a special quality and each print has its own uniqueness.

Sustainable & Ethical TEXTILES

At the heart of everything designed for KYE is a passion for sustainable and ethically produced textiles. The materials are chosen with great care and the inks used are Soil Association Approved.

Woodblock printing is a technique that has been used on textiles for thousands of years and creates a beautiful print with a unique finish. KYE uses woodblock printing because of its many sustainable benefits and its handmade print quality.

Woodblock printing also uses less water and ink when compared with silkscreen printing and also completely eliminates the process of washing screens where ink is let into our waterways.

The textiles used in KYE products are made from locally produced Scottish linen or GOTS certified Organic cotton. The oak dowels are FSC certified.

The inks used on KYE products are water based and Soil Association approved. All efforts are used to reduce ink use. These inks are colourfast and can be ironed and washed.
